While I’m a fan of many gemstones, this month’s is among my favorite! Not just because it comes in every color in the rainbow (except red – that’s ruby!), but also because it is my daughter’s birthstone. ❤
As the birthstone for September, as well as the gemstone for 5th and 45th wedding anniversaries, sapphires exude a regal appearance. They often feature shades that are vivid and saturated in color, and sapphires symbolize nobility, truth, sincerity, and faithfulness.
Considered among the “Big 3” of gemstones, sapphire often shares the stage with ruby and emerald as precious gemstones. They’re also associated with royalty and romance; think Princess Diana – and now Princess Kate’s – AMAZING engagement ring. The durability and color range of sapphire makes it popular for statement pieces, everyday jewelry, and engagement rings.
Sapphires are sourced from Asia, Africa, and Australia, and can even be unearthed in the United States! Montana’s Yogo Gulch area is famous for its beautiful sapphires. Looking for some sapphire inspiration? Explore our gallery below.
